Not a History Book—But HIS-STORY!
The Bible is not a history book, though it contains history. History is God's story, His Story! From eternity past to eternity future, Scripture unfolds the uncreated Creator who became creation through incarnation - virgin birth of Jesus through Mary -to redeem His creation.
In Rev 1 Jesus said , "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending." To humanity and creation, time is measurable as start then finish. But to God, time exists within Him because He IS - Heb11:6 . Hebrews 7:3 declares him without beginning and without ending. Before the beginning began, God began the beginning.
At His second coming, believers will be transformed into his likeness. We will, put on an immortal, incorruptible resurrection body just like our Lord's. This is the ultimate proof of complete redemption from corrupted humanity. Hallelujah!
"I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty."
Revelation 1:8
Not Just Prophecy—But the Revelation of Jesus Christ
The Bible is not a book of predictions, though it prophesies the future in detail accurately. Scriptures unveil eternity past, present, and future. Howver what matters most to God is the revelation of His Son, Jesus Christ!
As the Omniscient One—God who knows all things—His purpose in Scripture is to direct us. As the Omnipotent One—God who has unlimited power—His strength is unveiled toward one goal. As the Omnipresent One—God who is everywhere—His presence fills every page with one Person. God's supreme interest in Scripture is to bring us to the full knowledge of His Son, Jesus Christ. When we find the Son we have found the Father and the Holy Spirit as well. All scripture points to Him!
"Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me."
John 5:39
The Four Gospels: Four Faces of the One Christ
The four Gospels are four close examinations and portraits of Jesus. Four is the number of created things on earth. The four gopels correspond to the four living creatures in Revelation 4:7—the Lion, the Ox, the Man, and the Eagle. Each Gospel unveils a different aspect of our wonderful Lord!
In Matthew, Jesus is the KING of Kings! He is the Lion face of the living creatures—the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the royal Messiah. Matthew traces His genealogy through the kingly line of David, records His birth as King of the Jews, presents His kingdom teachings, and shows Him crucified as King of the Jews. in Rev 1:5 He rules the kings of the earth. In Rev 5 He alone is worthy to open the scroll and reign forever!
In Mark, Jesus is the SERVANT Slave! He is represented by the Ox—the beast of burden, working tirelessly for us. Mark uses the word "immediately" over 40 times, showing Jesus constantly moving, serving, working miracles among the people. No genealogy is given—servants don't need pedigrees, only obedience. This is our Lord who came not to be served but to serve and give His life a ransom for many!
In Luke, Jesus is the SON OF MAN! He is the human face of the four living creatures. Though He is the Son of God, throughout Scripture He consistently calls Himself the Son of Man. Luke traces His genealogy all the way back to Adam, showing His connection to all humanity. Hallelujah—we have the Son of Man representing us in heaven as the High Priest in the order of Melchizedek, Mediator of new covenant, Surety of new covenenant, intercessor, Advocate, Great Sherphered and much more!
In John, Jesus is revealed as the SON OF GOD! He is the Eagle face—soaring above the earth. John opens not with genealogy but with eternity: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." This Gospel unveils Christ's deity as the Son of God, equal to God and God himself manifested in the flesh.
"And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle."
Revelation 4:7
Christ in Every Book of the Old Testament
In Genesis, Jesus is the CREATOR! "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth"—but John reveals that "all things were made by Him; and without Him was not anything made that was made." Every star, every mountain, every human being was spoken into existence by the Word who became flesh!
In Exodus, Jesus is the REDEEMER! The Passover Lamb whose blood saved Israel from death is a perfect type of Christ, our Passover sacrificed for us. The pillar of fire by night and cloud by day? Christ guiding His people. The manna from heaven? Christ, the Bread of Life. The water from the rock? Christ, the spiritual Rock that followed them!
In Leviticus, Jesus is our HIGH PRIEST in the order of Melchizedek! Every sacrifice, every offering, every ritual pointed to Him. The blood sprinkled on the mercy seat, the scapegoat bearing sins into the wilderness, the Day of Atonement—all foreshadowed the perfect sacrifice of Christ. He is both the Priest offering the sacrifice AND the Lamb being sacrificed!
In Numbers, Jesus is the pillar of cloud and fire, the bronze serpent lifted up! In Deuteronomy, He is the Prophet like Moses. In Joshua, He is the Captain of the Lord's host. In Judges, He is our Deliverer. In Ruth, He is our Kinsman Redeemer. Can you see Him? He's in every book, on every page, waiting to be discovered by hungry hearts!
"And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself."
Luke 24:27
Read Your Bible Differently—See Jesus Everywhere!
When you read about Adam, see the Last Adam. When you read about Abel's acceptable sacrifice, see the Lamb of God. When Isaac carries the wood up the mountain, see Jesus carrying His cross. When Joseph is betrayed by his brothers but becomes their savior, see the rejected Messiah who will saves humanity. When David slays Goliath, see the Champion who crushed the serpent's head!
🙏 Prayer
Lord Jesus, open my eyes to see You in the Scriptures!
