Jesus' Bones, Joseph's Bones: A Typology of Resurrection and Parousia

Centuries later, Joseph's bones were buried at Shechem next to Jacob's well, which is by the highway in Ephraim which means "fruitful" (Joshua 24:32). Whilst living in the land, misfortune fell on Ephraim, who were almost exterminated in man-slaughter by Gath, but God restored Ephraim's population, as recorded in 1 Chronicles 7:[20-29](tel:20-29). This fulfilled Jacobs prophecy in Genesis 49.

Joseph is a type of Christ, and restoration of Joseph's son Ephraim declared the prevailing gospel of the crucified, resurrected, ascended, glorified, exalted, and enthroned Christ Jesus.

Through hardship Joseph prevailed as ruler of Egypt (the world). "And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence." (Genesis 50:25) This prefigures the parousia of Christ to take us out of this world. It also typifies our fruitfulness in Christ despite persecution by Satan over millennia.

The bones typify our imminent rapture, the second coming of Christ, the millennium reign of Christ, and eternity in the Lord.Shechem was also given to the Levites as pasture lands and a place of refuge (Joshua 21:21). We see Josephs bones for resurrection, pasture lands for nourishment in Christ, and the city of refuge being our rest in Christ, who is our escape from this evil world.

Where sin abounds, Grace abounds much more

Generations later Solomon built the temple in Jerusalem in materials partnership with Tyre. Hiram despised twenty cities of Galilee given as payment, calling them the land of Cabul, meaning worthless 1 Kings 9:11-13. The Landlord, The Saviour spent his greater ministry in Galilee, the place called worthless by the world. Jesus comes to dwell and minister to you in your low and rejected estate. Galilee was in Samaria which was Northern Israel capital. Jesus ministered where sin abounded. He brought life to sinful humanity

God tore the kingdom from David's grandson Rehoboam and gave it to Jeroboam who built a golden calf at Bethel( which means the House of God), and at Dan 1 Kings 12:28-29. Samaria replaced the worship of God with idolatry. Omri, the father of Ahab, founded Samaria as a city (1 Kings 16:24). Omri's son, King Ahab, killed righteous Naboth to steal his vineyard (1 Kings 21). Jezebel, Ahab's wife, killed the prophets of God in Samaria, and Elijah fled from her (1 Kings 18:4, 19:2-3) Prophet Zechariah, the son of Jehoiada—the patriarchal equivalent priest in the category of Jacob—was killed in the court of the house of the Lord 2 Chronicles 24:20-21.

God said the sins of Samaria exceeded the sins of the Amorites whom Israel had been called to dispossess. Consequently, Samaria was conquered and the people were exiled to Assyria to this day (2 Kings 17:6).Assyria replaced Samaria's exiled population by settling foreign nations in Samaria. This new population feared God and practiced the occult simultaneously. They intermarried with the remnant of Israel and raised a nation called Samaritans. The Samaritans were a mixed race; they accepted the Pentateuch (Genesis to Deuteronomy) but rejected the prophets and other scriptures. Samaritans were a prostitute typified by the prophet Hosea's wife (Hosea 1:2).

Jacob's well- Blood and water gushed out of Jesus body at the cross

Rebekah was betrothed at the well (Genesis 24). Rachel was betrothed at the well (Genesis 29). Zipporah, Moses' wife, was betrothed at the well (Exodus 2). The well is a symbol of the husband finding his wife. In this scenario, the husband of the church is the Lord Jesus the seed of the woman—Jesus Christ. We see Jesus intentionally coming to Samaria, a place defiled by the sins of mankind. We see Christ the seed coming to minister to a despised, shameful woman who symbolises fallen and broken humanity. We see the perfect man meeting imperfect humanity.

In Jesus' genealogy, four women are listed (Matthew 1). Rahab the prostitute; Tamar, who slept with her father-in-law Judah and bore Perez out of incest; Ruth the Moabitess, who is a descendant of incest; and Bathsheba, with whom David committed adultery and murdered Uriah. Jesus' body was a summation of all the likeness of the flesh, but without sin.

Remember, the bronze serpent lifted by Moses was a type of the snake. However being bronze it had no venom yet healing all who had been injected serpent poison. All of humanity was injected serpent poison when Adam ate the tree of death. So Jesus has a body, but not a sinful body. Hallelujah! Only such a person can save man. Hence the scripture declares: "And he must needs go through Samaria." (John 4:4). Remember Jesus bones were not broken at the cross. Remember blood and water gushed out of his side at the cross.
