The Seventh Husband and the Water of Life

Jesus, the bridegroom of the church, knows the state of humanity and comes to reveal himself to this Samaritan woman, who is a type of all of humanity. As Jesus communed with her, He asked her to call her husband. In other words, Jesus is asking her about whom she was committed to. She answered she had no husband. The Lord applauded her and informed her that she had five past husbands and was living with the sixth, but still in an adulterous relationship.

Her state reveals the state of our hearts, for we all have been drawn to many husbands, but none of them satisfied us. Our need in life is satisfaction, and the husbands or commitments of our lives cannot satisfy us. Hallelujah, the living water, Jesus Christ, came to the well and revealed to us the living water!

Jesus brought to humanity the gift of God. The seed of the woman is the gift of God. Jesus is the gift of God. He is appealing to you and me to ask him for the living water. The living water is his person as the Lord and saviour of our lives. At calvary blood and water gushed out of his side. The blood was for our redemption and the water for our drinking. Let us onboard him in our hearts as our enjoyment, for he is greater than economies, territories,religion, life pursuits, and passions in life.

This woman had passions of the flesh, and Jesus healed her as she became spiritually alive, receiving Jesus as her Lord and immediately announcing him to Samaria.

Six is the number of mankind. So humanity could not satisfy her, and people will never satisfy our needs. The five husbands used and discarded her. The sixth husband speaks of our current state of heart wherein the world cannot presently satisfy us and will never. Seven is the number of perfection. Only Christ, the Seventh husband of the church, satisfies our need.

The Prevailing Gospel in Samaria

The woman evangelised Samaria. Samaria requested Jesus to tarry, and he stayed two days speaking and ministering to Samaria. Samaria believed not only because of the woman, but because they had heard him themselves (John 4:42). Jesus is speaking to us Samaritans today. Jesus is our single need.

There was much joy in Samaria. Jesus destroyed the historical hatred. He destroyed the perverted religion. He destroyed the occult. He destroyed witchcraft. He destroyed the power of the flesh. He destroyed Satan in Samaria.

After the crucifixion, resurrection, ascension, exaltation, glorification, and enthronement of Jesus our Lord, Samaria received the gospel at the preaching of Philip the evangelist. Demons were cast out and the Holy Spirit fell on the people. They were healed, and great joy filled them (Acts 8:5-8). They received the great gift of God, the Holy Spirit, who is the person of Christ Jesus pneumatically.

The gospel is glorious and prevailing. Despite the attempts of Satan to ruin the calling of God upon Samaria, grace always prevails where sin abounded (Romans 5:20). No matter the sin and ruin Satan has attempted over your life, Jesus has come to meet you right now. Witchcraft is nothing. Satanism and occult is nothing. The promise was to Abraham's seed, who is Christ. Samaria's mixed multitude declares the gospel was given to everyone.

Resurrected Ascended & Glorified Christ manifests in Samaria

The Lord Jesus not only intentionally ministered in Samaria before the cross. He ministered in Samaria after his resurrection! On his resurrection day he appeared and told the seeking women that he would meet his disciples in Samaria. We see a glimpse of his appearing at the Sea of Tiberias

During the forty days following Jesus' resurrection, Jesus appeared at the Sea of Tiberias and performed three miracles. Tiberias is in the region of Galilee, of which Galilee is under the umbrella of the Samaria region. The first miracle: the Professional fisherman - Peter and the disciples toiled all night and caught no fish, even during the best hours for fishing. The second miracle: at the word of Jesus, they caught so much fish the net could scarcely hold it. The third miracle: when they came to land, Jesus already had a fire, fish, and bread prepared, all before they ever brought what they had caught.

This is the pattern of His grace toward Samaria, and toward us. His provision is in his appearing not our toiling. The fish on the fire was not from the sea. When Jesus appears our provision issues are fully solved. His appearing brings blessing to our labors enabling the miraculous catch of fish. His appearing restores us without rebuke. Jesus didnt rebuke them for fishing. It is in Samaria that Jesus restored, commissioned Peter and asked Him to follow Him and Peter did so until his death on inverted cross. It is in Samaria that the Lord commissioned John The Revelator who concluded the entire Scriptures.
